KING, Simon Born In Oxford On 11/04/1983  England Joined On 11/07/2003 Player Left: 10/06/2007 Class. Signed by Martin Allen from Oxford United in 2003, Kingy was hardly the most notable of signings at the time, having failed to establish himself at Oxford. He was initially played at left back, where he quickly became a big Underhill favourite, before being converted to centre back by Paul Fairclough in the 2004/05 season. In the centre he excelled even further, with some superb defensive displays. One of Kings finest moments that season however came in an unlikely fashion, a stunning volley from outside the box away to Aldershot Town (3-2). King was one of the few to make the step up to League Two look easy and we all knew it wouldnt be long before he moved onto better things. In the summer of 2007 he left Barnet in a £200,000 deal to join League One Gillingham. It didnt go all too well initially there for Simon, as the Gills ended up in League Two for 2008/09, only to bounce straight back up, with Kingy one of the stars of their team. Surely hell end up at least in the Championship, eventually.
