YAKUBU, Ismail Born In Kano (Nigeria) On 08/04/1985  England Player In a division where players don't really stay at clubs for a long period of time, Ismail Yakubu is something of a rarity. He started with the club aged eleven with the old youth setup and made his first team debut in the 2001/2002 season against Non-League minnows Stevenage Borough. He has been part of the team ever since and while his performances have continued to peak and trough all throughout this long spell, there is no doubting his defensive ability. That said, he hasn't always been in defence. In his long time here, he has played all across midfield and defence. The only positions he hasn't played are up front and in goal! There has always been a question mark over Yaks' distribution however, but he is a physically strong player and can stand up well against the big strikers. For a big lad he is still pretty pacy as well. As mentioned, he has had iffy moments for a prolonged number of games in the past, but the signing of Gary Breen worked wonders for him. You could see the benefit of an old experienced head from the outset and he is currently doing very well in the heart of defence. Ismail also tends to chip in with a number of goals each season as well. He has scored seventeen goals for Barnet, not bad for a defender. The best one was undoubtedly in 2002/2003 at Farnborough where he curled in an absolute beauty from the edge of the box. He must be due a testimonial soon?
