Could he have done so, so much better? If youve read about his infamous Bolton Wanderers trial before he ended up at Barnet, then yes, maybe he could.
John Still signed Danny for Barnet for a £40,000 in 1999 from London rivals Leyton Orient, where he was yet to play in the first team. He went straight into the Barnet side and looked a very good acquisition in his first season with the club. His performances the year later, the relegation season, were not so consistent, but Danny remained loyal to the club and was with Barnet as they began life in the Conference in 2001/02.
Attitude was something many always questioned and at times, it certainly seemed to play a big part in how Danny played. When he was up for it, hed boss many a game at Conference level and show some lovely bits of skills. But when he had an off day, he really just did not turn up. At the end of 2002/03, after a mixed and injury hit campaign, new boss Martin Allen offered Brown a three month deal, to prove his fitness. Danny rejected this and went looking for a league club.
Oxford United, then in the Third Division, signed him prior to the 2003/04 season. Brown spent two years with the Us, but only made 16 appearances, before dropping back into non-league and signing for Crawley Town for the 2005/06 season. An impressive season there earned him a move to Cambridge United, who he went onto captain several times, before leaving in January 2009 for Eastbourne Borough where he is club captain and is reportedly really enjoying his football, having recently signed a two year deal.
