Black 'n Orange Army!

Not that this is a real bone of contention for me, I mean, I don't mention it much, but once again we will be taking to the field in a distinctly orange kit. We may as well change the words to the song now! Lawrie Sanchez' Black 'n Orange army! What's worse is that we were tempted in Pre-Season by what has been dubbed a 'Special Edition' kit which has the colour absolutely spot on. Now we look like Holland! It's just really annoying. At least the away shirt is pretty smart.

In the grand scheme of things, of course it isn't the biggest issue that we'll have to face this season. It is silly to get carried away by either results or performances in pre-season, but whilst we've looked reasonable in patches, we have already shown that with a couple of injuries in key positions, we may struggle. It has proven difficult to invest in any sort of depth as the numbers in our squad scrapes towards the twenty mark. Knocks to Daniel Leach, Darren Dennehy, Tommy Fraser and Steve Kabba have ruled our four names who would most likely be very close to the starting XI.

We've shown flashes of good play during the six games we've played. I'm personally very pleased that we've got Mark Byrne and Sam Deering in the middle of the park, though whether they'll be joined by another as part of a 3-5-2 formation or on their own in a standard 4-4-2 remains to be seen. Izale McLeod has looked extremely sharp in front of goal which can only be a good thing. He has been criticised slightly for not demonstrating the more industrious, hard-working side of the game, but if he scores at a rate of nearly one every two games like last season, then I'll most certainly take that!

It all begins next week at Morecambe and there's plenty of talk about how people are getting there and where they'll be staying. Morecambe is a great venue for a weekend and has been timed perfectly for a season opener, just as it was in 2007-2008 when Morecambe made their Football League debut. As such, I'm sure we'll be seeing a healthy following up there and plenty of familiar faces around the town in the morning and indeed in the evening. Though if you want a big night out, and you want my opinion on the matter, go to Lancaster!

It would be completely Barnet-esque to get our hopes up and watch it all go up in smoke within three days after two away defeats. Portsmouth follow up in the Carling Cup which of course will be a tough ask to get any sort of result from. It will however be another overnight stay which makes the start of this season lovely and expensive, but why not make a day of it? With any luck, summer will actually begin this week and carry on through to two coastal trips. Plenty of mileage, plenty of money, plenty of beer, plenty of stories and with a bit of luck, plenty of Barnet goals? Is it too much to ask?
